Paris in a day (let's try this post again!)

We finally have wifi again, so I can post our pictures from Paris!!

After a rather jet-lagged night, we woke up on Sunday in Paris ready to explore and mingle with the friendly French.

First we had an absolutely delicious breakfast, served by a delightfully grouchy French waiter. Pain, café au lait, and whatever the word for yummy jam is. So tasty! Avoiding bread in France would be very hard, but luckily we aren't insane or stupid so we didn't try :)

After breakfast we spotted a market and decided to explore. I stretched for blocks and blocks and was packed with Parisians doing their shopping. I took a few pictures, but didn't get one of the impressive meat stalls. Or the fish. Or the cheeses. And we didn't buy anything. Shoot. I'm full of regret, but at the time I was full of baguette.

Next we decided to wander in the general direction of the main sites of Paris, and we ended up walking through some beautiful gardens.

What was really exciting was that the Paris Zoo was in the gardens! We (obviously) bought tickets and explored and saw tons of awesome French animals. Loved the baby monkey:
But probably the highlight of the zoo (and let's be honest, maybe our lives) was seeing a real, live, French, AWESOME tapir!!!!

After the zoo, we decided to see a few more typical Paris sights. We started with food. Of course. Nutella and banana crepe!

Then Notre Dame...

And the Eiffel Tower in the rain...

We ended with an amazing French dinner that included duck, charcuterie, and créme brûlée. We finished our day in Paris with about 30,000 steps (thanks FotBot!), 14 miles, and many wonderful memories. We loved it and hope we can go back someday.

Au Revoir, Paris!
Meg and Mike

Ps- this picture sums up our day on Monday experiencing the French rail system. Enough said.
